Max Scherzer of the Nationals made history on Oct. 3, 2015 by becoming the sixth pitcher in major league history to throw two no-hitters in one season. In the process of his second hitless game of the year, he joined a group of 17 other pitchers to strike out nine batters in succession in a single outing and tied the major league mark for most strikeouts in a no-hit game with 17. Nolan Ryan established the no-hit strikeout mark on July 15, 1973 against the Detroit Tigers.
